NOTE: THIS IS ONLY A DRILL, planned prior to yesterday’s tragic events in Boston. Mission Hospital, along with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS), regularly conducts casualty exercises in order to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency. Today, the organizations will be conducting a casualty exercise that will include a “mock” bus crash with “mock” volunteer victims and family members. Residents and visitors to the Memorial Campus and the Biltmore Avenue area immediately adjacent to the campus may see “mock” emergency activities that may include ambulances, gatherings of people, etc. During the exercise, first responders and key hospital personnel will test their emergency response capabilities during a mass casualty incident to assess efficiencies. Radio traffic on special participating frequencies may refer to an accident, injuries, fatalities and other situations. THIS IS PART OF THE DRILL. Unless a radio transmission uses the words, “This is a real world event,” all transmissions and activities are part of the mock exercise and should not be mistaken as a real event.
