Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré to give educational performance at Orange Peel

LEAF Schools & Streets presents Vieux Farka Touré at the Orange Peel

On Monday, October 21, 2013, LEAF Festival and LEAF Schools & Streets invite the community to an Educational Informance by Vieux Farka Touré at The Orange Peel. The show will include a musical performance demonstrating the guitar style of Mali, and an interactive question and answer session with the audience.

Vieux is the son of Malian legend, Ali Farka Touré. Singer and multi-instrumentalist, Ali Farka Touré was one of the most internationally renowned African musicians. Vieux Farka Touré’s music, like his father’s, combines traditional Malian music with blues and soul.

His most recent album, “Mon Pays” released May 2013, pays homage to his country and Malian culture. Mali has been torn by territorial conflict between Tuareg and Islamic populations since January 2012, and Vieux Farka Touré has devoted his musical talents to reminding the world about the beauty and culture of his homeland. He is promoting this new album and spreading awareness of the current Malian conflict on his current U.S. tour. Vieux’s performances at LEAF Festival and the Orange Peel are his only tour-dates in the Southeast.

This informance is a great educational opportunity for school field trips, homeschoolers, and kids of all ages. Through the performance, LEAF is honored to connect the powerful global voice of Vieux Farka Touré with our local community.
