Master Gardeners to hold compost demo at WNC Farmers Market, May 10 & 24

Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers

The Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers (EMGs) will offer free compost demos and plant clinics on Saturday May 10 and May 24 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the WNC Farmers Market, 570 Brevard Road. They will continue on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month through the growing season.

The compost demo will be set up near Jesse Israel garden center. Extension Master Gardeners will answer questions and explain the benefits of composting and how to start composting in your home garden. Several compost systems will be displayed, including a worm-composting bin. Volunteers will be ready to provide advice, and printed materials on composting strategies will also be provided. Demos will continue on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month through the growing season. For more information visit buncombemastergardener.org, or call NC Cooperative Extension at (828) 255-5522.

A Plant Clinic will be offered at the same time. An information table will be displayed in the breezeway area between the two retail buildings located on the south side as one enters the Farmers Market.  The clinic is designed to help gardeners identify plant problems and pests.  Area residents are encouraged to bring in plant samples for evaluation.  Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and provided a variety of handouts and soil sample kits.
