Medicare for All Rally to occur June 5 in Hendersonville

The event will occur at 5 p.m. June 5 at the Historic Courthouse on Main Street and 1st Avenue in Hendersonville. Press release from event organizers:

Western North Carolinians will show the world their support for Expanded and Improved Medicare for All at the Hendersonville Medicare for All Rally. The rally corresponds with the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival theme for the week: Ecological Devastation and Health.

The Poor People’s Campaign emphasizes, “We demand the expansion of Medicaid in every state and the protection of Medicare and single-payer universal health care for all.”

The event organizers, with the help of Backbone Campaign have created vibrant, huge 10-ft tall vertical banners, 9-ft wide horizontal banners, a 20-ft tall deer fence banner, and colorful hand made posters. The organizers have enough signs to share with those who cannot bring a sign.

Kyra Moore, the lead organizer for People for Everyone, will explain H.R. 676, Expanded and Improved Medicare for All, and how it compares to other Medicare for All legislation.

Participants can share personal stories about how they or family members have suffered physically, emotionally or economically from unaffordable health insurance premiums, co-pays and/or deductibles.

Also participants have the option to sing or chant from handouts provided by the Poor People’s Campaign.

According to Kyra Moore, “Support of Medicare for All among all Americans has jumped 9% in the last 12 months. We need to take advantage of this rapid wave of support before legislators try to convince the public of a transitional or watered-down version of healthcare for all, because single-payer Medicare for All, H.R. 676, Expanded and Improved Medicare for All, is the only economically feasible solution. I’m sick of seeing friends’ businesses suffer from profit losses from huge price increases for health insurance for their employees year; and I am tired of seeing friends and family literally suffer or die as a result of deductibles that are so expensive that they cannot receive the medical help they so desperately need.

Sponsored by: Progressive Organized Women, People For Healthcare for Everyone, Healthcare for All WNC, and the Backbone Campaign.
