Asheville Police investigating pedestrian fatality

Press release from Asheville Police Department

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatality collision in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the McDowell Street bridge last Thursday night.

Megan Perry (05/01/1990) was walking in the roadway near the 560 block of McDowell Street around 10:50 p.m. on September 22 when she was struck by a vehicle. Perry was transported to Mission and succumbed to her injuries on the afternoon of September 28; next of kin have been notified.

In light of October being Pedestrian Safety Month, officers encourage drivers to be mindful of intersections and roadways where pedestrian traffic is heavy, as well as encourage those walking at nighttime to wear light-colored or reflective clothing and be mindful of the pedestrian protocol. We encourage drivers to look for pedestrians. Particularly children and teens, who can be less predictable and move more slowly. Be especially careful around schools, residential neighborhoods, and near parks and playgrounds.
