Mills River Presbyterian Church hosts 10th annual Puzzlefest, Jan. 20-26

Press release from Mills River Presbyterian Church:

Mills River Presbyterian Church will host the 10th Annual Puzzlefest, from January 20 – 26, 2019 in its Fellowship Hall. The public is invited to come and tackle the challenge of finishing up a 9,000-piece jigsaw puzzle that was started at last year’s event.

The massive 76″ wide by 54″ long puzzle depicts an “Underwater Paradise” with hundreds of colorful fish and coral features. Half of the puzzle was completed at the 2018 Puzzlefest and the remaining half — 4,500 brightly-colored pieces — remain to be put together this year. The goal is to have the second part of the puzzle finished in the one-week timeframe.

“It turned out that the huge puzzle was a bit too intimidating to be put together all at one time last year,” says Randall Boggs, the pastor at Mills River Presbyterian Church. “We have half of it finished and glued together. Now we’re inviting area residents to put aside the ‘winter blahs’ and come inside to help conquer the rest of the puzzle.”

Open to all Asheville and Hendersonville area residents of all ages, the Puzzlefest runs from noon to 8pm daily starting on January 20th and ending on January 26th. Participants are encouraged to bring canned food items to drop off for donation to Interfaith Assistance Ministry (IAM) to help feed those in need in Henderson County.

“The finished puzzle will be glued and framed,” says Boggs. “We plan to put it on the wall in our Fellowship Hall to complement our original 24,000-piece World’s Largest Puzzle that we completed 10 years ago when we launched our annual Puzzlefest.

“During the past decade we’ve welcomed hundreds of local people into our church to work puzzles. We think it’s a great time of year to offer this relaxing ‘get out of the house’ activity that anyone and everyone can participate in!”

The Puzzlefest starts with a Potluck Luncheon on Sunday, January 20th in the Fellowship Hall of the church at noon. Smaller puzzles will also be available for people to work on if they choose and puzzlers of all skill levels are invited to participate in this community event. A “Puzzle Swap” will also take place with dozens of free puzzles available to people to swap out for those they have completed at home.

Mills River Presbyterian Church is located at 10 Presbyterian Church Road in Mills River, accessible from Haywood Road or Highway 280. For more information, call 828-891-7101.
