Asheville, N.C., March 19, 2012 – Today, Mission Hospital is celebrating Certified Nurses Day by honoring its 650 board certified nurses for their professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence in patient care. Certified Nurses Day allows employers, certification boards, education facilities, and healthcare providers to celebrate and publicly acknowledge their appreciation for nurses.
Mission Hospital encourages national board certification for all nurses. In the past few years, Mission has focused on creating a culture of certification and as a result, the rate of certified nurses has increased by 20%. Nursing certifications are available in specialties such as medical-surgical, pediatric, pain management, cardiac vascular, oncology, hospice, case management, emergency nursing and critical care.
“Nursing has become increasingly complex,” said Kathy Guyette, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Mission Health. “The knowledge-intensive requirements of nursing require continuing education, as well as a strong personal commitment to excellence. I am honored to say that Mission Health nurses are dedicated to maintaining the highest credentials in their specialty.”
Obtaining national certification for nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and families. “The nursing profession has evolved to encompass many responsibilities, but the most gratifying aspect for Mission nurses is their ability to earn the patient’s trust and help them in their time of need,” said Guyette.
