Press release from Mix 96.5:

If every dog has its day, that day is coming on September 7th. Mix 96.5’s Dog Day Afternoon, presented by Prestige Subaru, takes place from 12pm to 4 pm on Saturday, September 7th at the Salvage Station. It’s the one day a year the Salvage Station, a scenic spot along the French Broad River, is open to pets!

“It’s a great day to celebrate life with pets in the mountains, while rescuing dogs in need of forever homes,” says Tammy Jones, Mix 96.5 morning co-host. “Play with your dog along the river and enjoy local food and drinks for both the two and four legged guests.”

The Canines In The Clouds, presented by AB Tech’s Vet Tech program, will perform their amazing high-flying tricks. These canine stars are former shelter dogs that have been rescued. You can also let your dog take a run through the fast-paced Lure Course these acrobatic hounds are bringing to the Salvage Station. Donations are requested for a run on the Lure Course.

You can meet loving pets hoping to find forever homes at Dog Day Afternoon. Big Thanks to Dr. Peter Pang, the Bow Tie Dentist, at Asheville Holistic Dentist , our Adoption Sponsor. He will be paying the adoption fees for lucky dogs adopted at Dog Day Afternoon.*

Rescues taking part include: Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Mountain Pet Rescue, Charlie’s Angels Pet Rescue, Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation and Asheville Humane Society.

In addition to the Canines in the Clouds and the Lure Course, Mix 96.5’s Dog Day Afternoon also features a shopping showcase of pet products and services from area businesses. Salvage Station will have food available, plus The Hop will have ice cream for you and your dog.

Families who bring their dog will have the opportunity to have their pup chipped thanks to Octopus Garden, Diamond Thieves and their friends at WNC Veterinary Hospital. **

Tickets are available at the gate for $8. Kids under 12 and dogs are in for free. You can also pre-purchase a ticket for yourself or as a gift on the828.com/dog .

Bring your dogs along for the fun or come support animal adoption and meet dogs in search of forever homes! Visit the828.com/dog for complete festival information.

*applies to the adoption fees for approximately 12 dogs adopted during the event, pending approval
**free chipping for the first 40 dogs
