Montreat College receives mass spectrometer from Sanesco

Mass spectrometer

Press release from Sanesco International:

Sanesco International, Inc.® and its laboratory division, NeuroLab®, is an industry leader in assessing, monitoring, and correcting neurotransmitter and hormone imbalances for over a decade. The CEO and President of this family-owned, local healthcare company, Hector Romero, is pleased to announce the company’s decision to donate the laboratory’s mass spectrometer to Montreat College. Romero, a charitable-minded individual, wanted to donate the piece to a local liberal arts college in North Carolina as opposed to selling it. With a growing chemistry department, Montreat College fit perfectly. A mass spectrometer is a device that measures very small molecules and is a perfect device for chemistry students to use.

Jared Spencer, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Montreat College, will be coordinating a pick-up of the 2.5 foot by 1.2-foot mass spectrometer on Tuesday, October 23rd between 2:00pm to 3:00pm EST at Sanesco International, Inc.’s headquarters on Merrimon Ave.

“Mass spectrometers provide a great way to conduct research, like trying to identify small drugs, or molecules, or organic chemists trying to break substances down into their molecular level,” said Lisa Samuelson, Laboratory Manager at Sanesco International, Inc.

This particular mass spectrometer that is being donated originally cost the company over $300,000.00. Romero wanted to donate this piece to Montreat College because Montreat is a small college with a more limited budget, which means it would have been nearly impossible for this to have happen, without the donation of Sanesco International, Inc. “We’re donating this piece of equipment because it will give students experiences that other colleges cannot, it will further their education, and most importantly, we are giving back to the community that gives back to us,” Samuelson added.

“I like the idea of helping a small college, knowing that they wouldn’t have this opportunity without us,” said Samuelson, with a smile. “This piece will advance the chemistry department dramatically. I believe they will use this mass spectrometer in their research department, possibly for their graduate programs, and for graduate students to use for their thesis work.”

Sanesco International Inc. is a biotechnology company that enhances the clinical knowledge of healthcare providers worldwide relating to the application and implementation of neuroendocrine testing, HPA-T clinical analysis, and non-drug protocols in clinical practice.
