N.C. Mountain State Fair to hold job fair July 12

Press release from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services:

The 25th N.C. Mountain State Fair is just months away and fair organizers are looking for ticket takers, ticket sellers and competitive entry staff to make the event the best one yet. Officials will hold a job fair to accept applications on July 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. inside the Virginia C. Boone Mountain Heritage Building at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher.

Applicants are needed to work during the N.C. Mountain State Fair from Sept. 7-16. Pay is $10.48 per hour for ticket sellers and $9.48 per hour for ticket takers. All applicants must bring a social security card and valid state identification card or driver’s license to be considered for employment. Expired licenses will not be accepted.

While training will be provided, ticket sellers must have at least a year of cash handling experience. Ticket takers require a year of customer service experience. All applicants should also be at least 18 years old, be available to work at least four of the 10 days of the fair, and have a high school education or GED.

The fair is also looking for staff to assist with the competitive exhibits. Positions include entry staff and phone staff running from July 30 to Oct. 5. Pay is $10 per hour. Entry staff should be skilled in data entry, familiar with programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, have basic knowledge of copiers and printers and be comfortable in a high-stress environment. Phone staff should have phone and communications skills, and be comfortable using a copier, phone, stamp machine and other office equipment.

In addition to these paid positions, the fair is inviting new volunteers to be part of its fair family. Flexible shifts are available, but volunteers under the age of 18 must have a signed parental permission form. Volunteers who commit to 10 or more hours receive a N.C. Mountain State Fair T-shirt, free admission to the fair the day of the shift and an invitation to a volunteer appreciation dinner after the fair closes.

A training session will be held for both paid and volunteer positions closer to the opening of the fair. To volunteer or to apply for the competitive entry positions, contact entry coordinator Tamara Crain at 828-687-1414, ext. 210, or email at tamara.crain@ncagr.gov.

The 25th N.C. Mountain State Fair runs Sept. 7-16 at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher. The fair’s silver anniversary will celebrate the people, agriculture, art and traditions of Western North Carolina. More information is available at www.mountainfair.org.
