NC Industrial Hemp Association issues statement following legalization of the crop in NC

From the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association

Press release

RALEIGH, NC (Nov 2, 2015) It’s Official! Senate Bill 313 became law and was Chaptered in the State of North Carolina on Saturday, October 31st as Session Law 2015-299.

The law creates the opportunity for North Carolina farmers to participate in an industrial hemp pilot program in North Carolina. The North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association would like to give a special thanks to Representative Jeff Collins and Senator Stan Bingham for their hard work on this legislation throughout the year. Without their help, North Carolina would not have this opportunity for such a program.

We would also like to thank the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, as well as the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for their support during the legislative process.

Additionally, we would like to thank the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association for their tremendous understanding of the need to create a new industry for all of our farmers in the state of North Carolina. With the continued oversight of the Department of Agriculture and the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission, we are confident that our state will quickly lead the country in the industrial hemp industry.

Session Law 2015-299 sets forth the initial structure and process for North Carolina to become a hemp-producing state. The law creates the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission, which will coordinate with the Department of Agriculture to create the legal and administrative framework for hemp cultivation in North Carolina.

Our goal at the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association will be to work closely with the North Carolina Industrial Hemp Commission, and to provide assistance to the Commission as needed to help promote the interests of North Carolina farmers in this newly established industry.

The North Carolina Industrial Hemp Association is grateful for the support it has received in this effort. Without the help of everyone involved, it would not have been possible to establish this pilot program in the state of North Carolina.
