NC WIC program resumes normal operations

Press release

From the Buncombe County Health and Human Services:

Effective Friday, October 11, 2013, the NC WIC Program will resume normal operations. Effective immediately, local WIC agencies will issue food benefits to those placed on the waiting list on 10/9 and 10/10/2013; and enroll and serve all new eligible applicants. Buncombe County BHHS is grateful to our state officials for working to ensure pregnant women and children under the age of five are getting the nutrition they need. At a local level, Buncombe County HHS is very grateful to our community partners who stepped in immediately to address this need, specifically Eblen Charities, Ingles, Manna Food Bank, and Food Lion.

The State has identified contingency dollars to continue the program while federal dollars are not available due to the shutdown. This is a fluid situation and BCHHS will provide updates as needed.
