New Mama’s Day 10k to premier in May

Press release from Mama Maisha:

The First Annual Mama’s Day 10K and 1K Fun Run/Stroller Push will be held on Mother’s Day Weekend this year to benefit Mama Maisha, an Asheville-based nonprofit organization that provides care and resources to at risk women in rural Tanzania, Africa. Through this community action event, Mama Maisha hopes to continue to establish itself as a grassroots Asheville organization by garnering support from a community that values women’s rights.

The event that will take place on Saturday, May 7th is officially entitled Mama’s Day 10K and 1K Fun Run/Stoller Push: Saving Lives Two by Two. It will be held at Carrier Park, and there will be an after party at Wedge Brewing Company! The race course will meander along the French Broad River and promises to be welcoming to beginning runners as well as fast for those looking to set a PR.

Mama Maisha is an organization dedicated to preserving the lives of pregnant women in rural Tanzania, where one pregnant woman dies every single hour. Supporters of Mama Maisha believe the death of a mother is not only a health issue, but it is a human rights violation.

Come join us in supporting at risk women and mothers in the developing world, and get in shape while doing so! Run the Mama’s Day 10K and get your Mother’s Day Weekend started right!
