Nikki Forbes’ album release concert at Isis Music Hall, May 31

Press release:

Nikki Forbes, a high school senior at The Franklin School of Innovation in Asheville, NC is releasing her first CD at Isis Music Hall on May 31, 2018 at 7:00 pm. Forbes, not only sings, but also accompanies herself on acoustic guitar and ukulele. The album titled “Out of the Crowd” will showcase her original songs that combine pop, folk and contemporary genres of music. The show will be a fun and intimate evening in the lounge with special featured performances from Chris Rosser and talented singer-songwriters from the Franklin School of Innovation.

Forbes, an 18-year-old singer songwriter started singing when she was a little girl. She wrote her first song at age six. At age 13, prompted by her mother to “learn a few chords on the guitar,” she started getting serious about putting her melodies to actual music. She began by writing songs based on her life experiences, asking her friends and family to listen, give her feedback, and even asked them to work on lyrics and songs with her. Learning new chords allowed her to update and experiment with different styles of music and different parts of her songs.

In 2014, Forbes started high school at The Franklin School of Innovation (FSI) as a Freshman (which was the year the school opened.) That year, Cary Cooper, national award-winning songwriter who has six recorded CDs, came to FSI to be the music teacher. FSI with Cooper offers a songwriting class to push artists to write with different melodies and writing styles. Forbes has worked closely with Cooper for the last four years on all the aspects of song writing and performing. As her Senior Class Independent Study, Forbes decided to take her passion a step further and learn how to record, produce, manage and promote a CD of her favorite original songs. She is doing this with Cary Cooper as her mentor and local musician and Chris Rosser as the producer/back up musician.

Forbes received the 2018 Y.E.S. Emerging Artist Scholarship from the Diana Wortham Theatre. Working hard as her own agent/promoter, Forbes also plays at local restaurants, breweries, pop- up markets, church, festivals and events in the Asheville area. Live performances also add to her singer/songwriting experience and to her dream of sharing her music with the world.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at
