Nonprofit diaper bank comes to Asheville Outlets

Press release from Babies Need Bottoms:

Babies Need Bottoms Inc. is moving into the food court area of Asheville Outlets, located at 800 Brevard Road, through a generous in-kind donation of space from Asheville Outlets. The new location will replace a much smaller climate-controlled storage area that no longer has adequate space to store donated supplies. The new location will allow Babies Need Bottoms to receive larger donations of supplies that previously had to be turned away. The publicly-accessible space will also allow volunteers to distribute supplies to partner agencies and emergency diaper supply recipients. Through this exciting new partnership with Asheville Outlets, there will be future events at location to educate the community on diaper need and engage with the community during volunteer events.

One in three families in the US struggles to afford diapers. Government financial assistance programs (including food stamps and WIC) do not provide financial assistance for diapers and many local organizations do not have a budget to provide diapers for their clients. Diapers cost families an average $80/month per child, and clean diapers are vital for healthy babies. Without an adequate supply of disposable diapers, children are typically not permitted to attend child care, meaning their caregivers are not able to return to work or school.
