Noonday Feast performs at White Horse Black Mountain on Dec. 6
Asheville’s Noonday Feast takes its name from an Irish jig, a nod to the group’s foundation in Celtic music, but their range of influences also includes Appalachian music, blues, folk and light rock, all of which can be heard in their arrangements of traditional and original material. They return to the White Horse Black Mountain for a special show on Saturday, December 6 at 8 p.m.
Although the band is fairly new all the members are experienced musicians and they’ve grown a local fan base with a string of impressive appearances. Ryan Kurczak (mandolin, tenor banjo, bouzouki, guitar) is a veteran of Asheville area Irish sessions and has published a book of Celtic mandolin music. Linda Go (vocals, bodhran, ukulele, mandolin, djembe) has a following as a singer-songwriter and as a leader of music healing events. Violinist Marilia Trevisani also sings, as does guitar and bouzouki player Tim Potts. The band’s shows feature lively renditions of jigs and reels as well as strong original songs and instrumentals, and the many different instruments played by Noonday Feast’s members allow them to vary musical textures with ease. The group has just put the finishing touches on their first CD, recorded in Asheville and produced by Chris Rosser of Free Planet Radio.
