Olive or Twist will close Jan. 2

Press release:

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Olive or Twist, Restaurant and Bar,81 Broadway St, Asheville, NC 28801 will close it’s doors on January 2nd, 2017, after 8 years.

Sadly, the owner of the building, who lives in the apartment underneath, has been disturbed by the noise and has decided to convert it into a retail space.

There are very few businesses that could evoke such a strong emotional response from loyal patrons. Many admitted to shedding tears over the loss (yep even some men). “This bar is so unique,” said one, It really is a Cheers type place where everyone knows your name and your usual drink is waiting for you by the time you sit down at the bar.” And many of the employees have become friends.

Olive or Twist was known for excellent food and its warm ambiance of dark wood, brick and cozy fireplaces. But it is perhaps best known for attracting the very best bands in town for the blues and swing dance crowd. 3 Cool Cats, 42d Street, Rhoda Weaver, WestSound, Crown Jewels, Zen Cats and Remedy are crowd favorites.

The owner, Bill Devlin, is incredibly saddened at having to close his doors just after the holidays but hopes to find another location.

We encourage folks to come out as often as possible before the closing on January 2d. There is live Music and dancing every night except Monday and Christmas Day! Tickets for New Years Eve may sell out quickly so pick one up soon. There will also be a New Years Day recovery party and Closing Night Dance featuring Russ Wilson on January 1st.

After January 2nd, The Pillar Bar at The Hilton Garden Inn, College Street, has agreed to host our dance family and will have Remedy Blues Band on Tuesdays, 3 Cool Cats on Wednesdays and The Crown Jewels on Saturday Nights in January from 7-10 (no cover and free parking).
