One-man shows to be performed at UNCA

Here’s the press release from UNCA:

Actor and playwright Timothy Mooney will give two one-man performances, “Lot o’ Shakespeare” and “Moliere Than Thou,” at UNC Asheville on September 30 and October 1, respectively.

Both performances will take place at 8 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Humanities Lecture Hall, and are free and open to the public.

Lot o’ Shakespeare features 38 monologues from Shakespeare’s plays, chosen at random during the performance by spinning a Bingo cage. The audience plays along on their individual “IAGO” cards; the first to match four Shakespeare plays in a row wins. Moliere Than Thou, an 85 minute play, explores the best loved plays of French playwright Moliere, including speeches from Tartuffe, Don Juan and The Doctor In Spite of Himself.

Mooney is the author of the acting textbook, Acting at the Speed of Life, and The Big Book of Moliere Monologues, and has written seventeen iambic pentameter variations of the plays of Moliere.

The performances are co-sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Arts & Ideas Program, Cultural Events and Special Academic Programs, Drama Department, Humanities Program and the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information, visit the Humanities website or call 828.251.6808.
