Operation Prom Dress

The prom is a thing of legend, of dreams and anxiety, of hopes and fears, of soaring triumph and abject despair. And movies. So many teen movies. With all that drama in store, why would anyone want to miss out? Eblen Charities doesn’t think that anyone should — which is what Operation Prom Dress is all about. The annual event helps girls who want to go to prom but can’t afford a pricey dress. Here’s how:

“This Saturday, hundreds of prom dresses will again fill the racks at the former Bon Marche’/ Hamricks Department Store in the Westgate Shopping Center (site of this past Christmas’ Ingles Toy Store) to help provide formal wear to hundreds of girls who may not be able to afford the cost of a dress and would otherwise miss the most anticipated evenings of the school year,” says a press release.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday, March 10, and will provide a free dress to any prom-bound girl in need of one. “The remaining dresses will be kept at the Eblen Charities Waddell Client Service Center office at Westgate for anyone who may miss the event,” says the release. “If you know of any young lady in need of a prom dress, or have one you would like to donate, please contact Susan Riddle at Eblen at 828-255-3066 ext.11 or via email at sriddle@eblencharities.org.”
