From Reading, Riding, Retrofit: NC Green Schools
Owen Middle School in Swannanoa and Cane Creek Middle School in Fletcher were the first recipients of the Reading Riding and Retrofit: NC Green Schools Recognition, a state level program designed to encourage, support and recognize NC schools who are “growing green!” These two schools will be awarded their plagues at the Buncombe County School Board meeting, May 2, 2013 starting at 6:30 by Robin Cape founder of RRR and Tim Ballard of the Blue Ridge Sustainability Institute.
There are five criteria for consideration to earn recognition by RRR: NC Green Schools Program
1. Culture and Community
2. School Sustainability
3. Healthy Schools
4. Curriculum Integration
5. InnovationCane Creek Middle School has earned recognition as a NC Green School Of Promise for building strong initial steps for sustainability of their campuses and environmental education integration.
Owen Middle School has earned recognition as a NC Green School Of Quality for taking active strides in continuing the sustainability initiatives on their campuses and their environmental education integration.
