“Painters Painting” film screening at BMCM+AC, Nov. 6

The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in downtown Asheville presents a screening of the film Painters Painting: A Candid History of the New York Art Scene, 1940-1970 on Thursday, Nov. 6th at 7:30pm. This film by Emile de Antonio examines a pivotal time in the history of American art and includes rare footage of some of the giants of the New York art scene including Willem de Kooning, Kenneth Noland, Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Frank Stella, Hans Hoffman, Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Andy Warhol and more. Several of these artists were present at Black Mountain College, either as faculty members (de Kooning, Motherwell) or students (Rauschenberg, Noland). The film is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Dan Rice at Black Mountain College: Painter Among The Poets on view until January 10, 2015.

Admission to the film is $5 for BMCM+AC members & students w/ID / $8 for non-members
