More from PARI:

(May 25, 2015) – The public is invited to a special presentation of the summer night sky and constellations Friday, June 12 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). Weather permitting, the presentation will take place under the stars in PARI’s outdoor amphitheater planetarium. If inclement weather prevents the outdoor observations the presentation will take place in PARI’s StarLab planetarium.

The program is part of PARI’s monthly Evening at PARI series and will feature presentations by PARI astronomers. “During this special Evening at PARI,” said PARI Education Director Christi Whitworth, “we will explore the nighttime skies, share constellation stories and provide observing tips. This program is designed for all ages and knowledge levels, so we encourage family participation. Weather permitting, the presentation will be in our outdoor amphitheater planetarium and we will use PARI telescopes to conduct the observations.”

The Evening at PARI program will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a campus tour, including a trip to the newly opened gems and minerals section of the Exhibit Gallery. The presentation and observing session will follow. The program will take place regardless of the weather so attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for being outside and to wear comfortable walking shoes. Each participant will also have the opportunity to have a photo taken with a PARI telescope and will receive a subscription to the PARI newsletter.

Reservations are required and will be accepted until 3:00 p.m. the day of the event. Evening at PARI programs cost $20 per adult and $15 for seniors/military. Children under 10 are admitted free. Register and pay online at www.pari.edu or call (828) 862-5554. For additional information contact PARI Education Director Christi Whitworth at cwhitworth@pari.edu.
