Press release from Park Ridge Health:

Park Ridge Health invites the community to join us in congratulating our newest winner of the DAISY Award, Sarah Pressley, RN. Sarah is part of the Park Ridge Health Medical-Surgery team. Sarah’s clinical skill and compassionate care was noticed by fellow co-workers and the family members of her patients.

Pressley’s exemplary work ethic was observed in action when she went above and beyond with one of her Hispanic patients. The patient’s grandson describes that his grandmother speaks very little English and when she does not understand something she will just smile and nod.

Here is just a portion of the letter nominating Sarah for the DAISY Award:

“She not only waited to see my grandmother’s response, speaking to us on the phone and reassuring my grandmother with a smile, but she also translated all the medicine on the internet so my grandmother knew what she was taking and how it would affect her.

I was amazed that she took the time to print these medications and information out in Spanish, so my grandmother could feel safe with what she was taking. Sarah didn’t have to do this, but she did without my family asking.”

Sarah did not let the language barrier keep her from providing complete care. In fact, she took the initiative to translate the medications and related side effects. Once the patient reviewed the translated medicines, she noticed that she was allergic to one of the prescribed medicines.  Pressley’s resourcefulness proved to save the patient from a dangerous complication.

“Sarah views her job as more than just health care. She sees it as whole care, going above and beyond to make sure she is meeting each patient’s needs – body, mind and spirit,” said Roland Joy, Park Ridge Health Chief Nursing Officer, shared, “In the end, the patient and her family were very pleased at how they were taken care of even in the midst of some barriers.”

Park Ridge Health is excited to have partnered with The DAISY Foundation to honor nurses, like Sarah, who go above and beyond their daily tasks to make extraordinary differences in the lives of our patients and their families.

The Park Ridge Health Nursing Administration presented Sarah Pressley, RN with a gift package including:

·         DAISY Award Certificate

·         DAISY Award Pin

·         “A Healer’s Touch” Sculpture
