Park Ridge Health receives $730,000 Duke Endowment Grant for women’s health project

Press release from Park Ridge Health:

Park Ridge Health (which will soon be AdventHealth), in partnership with Safelight, Hope & Healing for Families, and The Free Clinics (TFC) are excited to announce they have been awarded a $730,000 Duke Endowment Grant to help fund the Phoenix Project.

The $730,000 grant will enable three separate but related projects. First, Park Ridge Health created an innovative care center at The Free Clinics’ location. This care center, known as Park Ridge Health Flat Rock, will include primary care, obstetrics/gynecological, and behavioral health care. Park Ridge Health Flat Rock providers are available to all persons and are accepting new patients.

This grant also creates a new model of care for survivors of trauma, known as the Phoenix Project. The Phoenix Project will utilize the services of the Park Ridge Health Flat Rock providers and a dedicated case manager at The Free Clinics to provide whole-person care for survivors of trauma such as sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking, among others. To address the unique needs of survivors, the entire Phoenix Project team has been trained in the provision of trauma-informed care and will employ an approach to care that builds upon persons’ resiliency.

Finally, this grant allows Park Ridge Health to hire a Physician Assistant to enhance and support the services of the Believe Child Advocacy Center.

This partnership with Safelight and The Free Clinics will increase the ability to influence many unreached demographics. The targeted populations include: survivors of sexual assault, survivors of domestic violence, survivors of human trafficking, pregnant women dealing with addiction, women with HIV or Hepatitis C, homeless women, women with mental health and/or substance abuse, and women facing the dual challenges of racial/ethnic minority and poverty.

Park Ridge Health was founded in 1910 and has served more than 35 locations, offering a dedicated network of more than 250 physicians and providers, cardiac care & rehabilitation, emergency services, nationally-awarded cancer care, state-of-the-art surgical care, full-service orthopedic care, an award-winning labor & delivery experience, and a full range of imaging services. Jimm Bunch is the president and CEO of Park Ridge Health.

Based in Charlotte and established in 1924 by industrialist and philanthropist James B. Duke, The Duke Endowment is a private foundation that strengthens communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds and enriching spirits. Since its founding, it has distributed more than $3.6 billion in grants. The Endowment shares a name with Duke University and Duke Energy, but all are separate organizations.

Park Ridge Health Flat Rock is currently scheduling appointments for Obstetrics and Gynecology patients with board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, John Cuellar, MD, FACOG. Behavioral Health patients may schedule appointments with Cynthia King, PsyD. The office will soon be welcoming new Primary Care patients with Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Jackie Sitton, FNP-C.
