Party Rock Fire grows to 885 acres

Notice from North Carolina Forest Service NC:

The Party Rock Fire has grown to an estimated 885 acres. Steep terrain, gusty winds, and extreme drought conditions have made firefighting efforts difficult. The North Carolina Forest Service has assigned over 100 personnel to the wildfire from all across the state. The fire is estimated at being 15% contained with continued containment efforts ongoing. The residents of fifty homes were previously notified by the Town of Lake Lure Fire Department of a potential need for evacuation in the Quail Ridge and Huntington Road areas of Rumbling Bald Resort, however only 15 of the 50 homes had to be evacuated. Three homes on Boulder Run Road were also evacuated yesterday. Temporary housing for evacuees has been arranged through Rumbling Bald Resort; evacuee housing can be found by calling 828-694-3046.

Communities north and west of the fire can prepare their homes to be more defensible to an approaching wildfire by removing leaves and needles from rooftops and gutters, removing flammable vegetation near home, and clearing the yard of leaf litter and other flammable debris. Additional home protection actions can be found by visiting http://firewise.org.
