Patsy Keever will remain in race for Congress in NC’s 10th Congressional District.
Keever will not switch to NC-11 race despite Rep. Shuler’s withdrawal.
Asheville, NC—Today State Representative Patsy Keever announced that, despite Rep. Heath Shuler’s decision not to run for reelection in the 11th Congressional District, she will remain in the race for the U.S. House in the 10th District.
Because of the extremely partisan redistricting here in North Carolina and across this country, Buncombe County residents were split between two congressional districts—the 10th and the 11th. More than 90 percent of the area I now represent in the State Legislature has been drawn into 10th Congressional District. That is why I decided to run in this district, and that is why I will continue to run in the 10th district.
I have enjoyed getting to know voters from Catabwa, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Polk and Rutherford Counties, and I look forward to continuing the conversation with voters across the 10th Congressional District over the next nine months. I will continue to be a candidate in North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District.
Rep. Keever also had praise for Rep. Shuler and his service to the citizens of his district:
I applaud Rep. Shuler for his service to the people of Western North Carolina during his three terms in Congress. Though our stances on the issues sometimes differed, I appreciated his willingness to serve his constituents and our nation as the Representative from North Carolina’s 11th District.
Rep. Patsy Keever (NC-115) is a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District. Last year Keever was deliberately drawn out of her state house district by the Republican leadership in Raleigh. It was at that point she decided to run for Congress in order to continue to represent the people of Buncombe County.
Keever taught in the public schools for more than 25 years and served on the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners for 12 years. In 2004, she ran a spirited, grassroots campaign for Congress. In 2010, Keever was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives from NC District 115.
