Permanent memorial to honor veterans is coming together in McDowell County

From the McDowell News:

Some heavy blocks of granite arrived this week from Georgia as the county’s new tribute to veterans begins to take shape.

On Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, big granite blocks, some weighing more than 5,300 pounds, arrived by truck to the site for the new veterans memorial wall located next to the McDowell County Senior Center. A total of 110,000 pounds of granite came to McDowell County from Willis Dimension Stone of Elberton, Ga. The blocks were carefully lowered into place with the help of a crane from IEM Inc. and, as of Thursday, more granite was expected to arrive.
