PFLAG car wash in Hendersonville to benefit LGBTQ youth

Press release from Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Flat Rock-Hendersonville Chapter:

Hendersonville, NC … August 16, 2016 … The Flat Rock-Hendersonville Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will hold its 2nd annual car wash on Saturday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church UCC, 1735 5th Avenue West in Hendersonville, NC.  The cost is $5.00 (outside only) and additional donations are welcome.

Proceeds and donations will benefit PFLAG’s Youth Enrichment Program, including the PFLAG Equality Scholarship at Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), and Henderson County high school gay-straight alliances (GSAs), and PRiSM at BRCC. Youth from these organizations will join PFLAG volunteers at the car wash.

“PFLAG is excited to partner with First Congregational and the youth from our local day-straight alliances in this event.  Helping raise money for our Youth Enrichment Program is one way we can be supportive of our LGBTQ youth,” said chapter president Jerry Miller.  “This also gives PFLAG members a chance to meet some of our young people.  We hope the community will show their support by bringing their cars to the church and give generously as they did last year.”

“I am pleased that First Congregational UCC in Laurel Park will again be hosting the car wash fundraiser for PFLAG,” said Reverend Richard Weidler.  “My church has had a wonderful relationship with PFLAG and its leaders for the past six years.  As a congregation we believe that all people are children of God and loved by God for who they are, straight and gay alike.”

Weidler adds, “If your car needs a ‘bath’ I highly recommend the PFLAG car wash.  It’s a win for the young people, and a win for your car; and lastly, a win for you for supporting these terrific young people.”

Donations may also be sent to PFLAG, PO Box 6063, Hendersonville, NC 28793.  For more information please contact Jerry Miller, PFLAG Chapter President at 828.697.0690 or at pflaghendersonville@gmail.com.
