Portions of Parkway still closed after Irma

An update from the National Park Service via the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation:

For Thursday, Sept. 14, the following sections of Blue Ridge Parkway remain closed due to ongoing cleanup efforts related to Tropical Storm Irma. Closures still in effect as of 12 p.m. include:

  • Milepost 269 – 276
  • Milepost 317 – 324
  • Milepost 355 – 382, including access to the Craggy Gardens Area
  • Milepost 393 – 405.5 (NC Hwy. 151)
  • Milepost 411.9 (US Route 276) – 442
  • Milepost 442 – 469, based on the volume and technicality of work required in this section, park officials anticipate this area will remain closed through Monday, Sept. 18

Access to Mt. Pisgah is now available from NC Highway 151 or U.S. Route 276 only. Pisgah Inn plans to be open for dinner service beginning at 5 p.m. The Pisgah Campground will remain closed until check-in on Friday, Sept. 15.

During this continued closure, these sections of Parkway remain closed to ALL traffic, including cyclists and hikers. Attempts to route around gates and barriers require staff time, which in turn delays opening times. The public’s cooperation with these remaining closures is important to personal safety as well as the protection of Parkway resources.

Updates to these closure areas will be noted in the coming days on the Parkway’s online Real Time Road Map.
