Public input requested on hotel development and North Fork Dam improvements

Email from City of Asheville:

The Office of Sustainability would like to make community members aware of two (2) opportunities to make your voices heard. Please take a moment to participate.

HOTEL SURVEY

Now is the time to identify environmental objectives you’d like to see included in hotel development in the City of Asheville. The Department of Planning & Urban Design is in the process of drafting a new ordinance to regulate hotel development and is conducting an online survey to gather input. Survey responses along with the Urban Land Institute’s recommendations on best land-use practices, tools, and strategies will guide the drafting of the new ordinance.

The online survey will be open for the community to provide comments from July 7 until Aug. 2

Additional project details can be found in this Press Release.

NORTH FORK DAM IMPROVEMENTS

In a continued effort to prevent significant damage in the event of a natural disaster (flood or earthquake), and to meet the regulatory standards and design requirements set by North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Dam Safety Division, the City of Asheville, in conjunction with consultants from Schnabel Engineering, identified and implemented proactive improvement measures at the North Fork Reservoir to protect and improve critical dam infrastructure.
