Raising Rabbits for Home/Business workshop planned for Tues., Feb. 21

ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization’s Green Energy and Sustainability Committee will hold its next Sustainable Living Workshop on Tuesday, Feb. 21, titled Raising Rabbits for the Home or Business featuring Rick Harty of Harty Farms of Mitchell County. This workshop will teach participants how to raise rabbits, from breeding stock, housing, feeding, breeding, processing, packaging and sales. Raising rabbits is easier than raising chickens and they produced excellent fertilizer for the garden and high quality meat for the plate. Rabbit meat is low in fat and sodium and has a higher meat to bone ratio meaning that you will get more meat for your food dollar.

Rick Harty owner/operator of the Harty Farm raises rabbits for meat to sell to local restaurants and is a member of the Independent Small Animal Meat Processors Association of western N.C. He has more than 30 years experience raising rabbits from a city environment to a mountain farm.

This workshop will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 P.M. at the ECO Conference Room. Advance registration is required because space is limited. To reserve your spot, register online at www.eco-wnc.org or call ECO at 692-0385. The registration fee is $15.
