Re-opening enrollment for APS Montessori Pre-K & Kindergarten

Press release from Asheville City Schools:

Good Afternoon Students, Staff and Families.  This is Ashley-Michelle Thublin, Asheville City Schools’ Executive Director of Communications.

As shared last week, the Asheville City Board of Education has voted to keep Asheville Primary School and its Montessori curriculum at its current location for the 2021-2022 school year as well as continue with 4th Grade for currently enrolled Montessori students for 2021-2022 and expand to 5th Grade in 2022-20223.

Additionally, they voted to re-open enrollment for only Asheville Primary Montessori Pre-K and Kindergarten students for the 2021-2022 school year.

With this in mind, please know enrollment will be open from today, Wednesday, June 2nd – Tuesday, June 15th.

If your child utilized Asheville Primary Montessori curriculum during the 2020-2021 school year, an APS staff member or a member of the district enrollment team will be calling you directly to determine your school preference.

All other families of Preschool and rising Kindergarten students who selected other schools within the district now have the option of sharing their interest in selecting Montessori at Asheville Primary School.  If your family is interested in this opportunity, please complete this interest form by Tuesday, June 15th.

Completing the interest form does NOT guarantee placement.

Once the re-enrollment window has closed, students will be placed using the district’s enrollment policies.  Placement is also based on space, capacity and the federal desegregation order.

All families will be notified on their child’s placement via email by Wednesday, June 23rd.

Additionally, similar to traditional preschool, families must meet income guidelines to qualify for no-cost enrollment or pay tuition.  More information can be found here.

If you have any questions, please call Asheville Primary’s Front Office at (828) 350-2900 or the district’s Enrollment Office at (828) 350-6111.
