Registration open for Brevard College community education classes

Press Release

Brevard College

Open seats remain in several of Brevard College’s community education classes, which include non-credit classes offered for health, recreation, self-improvement, skill-building, and lifelong learning. Individuals may register for courses anytime during the semester, up to within five (5) business days prior to the start of any given course.

Community members may choose from more than 40 courses, such as Zumba Fitness, Basic Yoga, Spanish for Travelers, French for Travelers, Fundamentals of Drawing, Soccer After School for Kids, Beginning Guitar, Adult Ballet and Conditioning, and The Hub’s “Complete Bicycle Maintenance Workshop.”

A new Trusts and Estates Planning and Administration workshop will be offered this spring, as will the popular “Rejuvenate Your Retirement” workshop. The latter covers many key issues for retirees, including tax reduction planning, investment risk management, health care planning, general estate planning, and new ways to stay mentally, physically, and socially active.

The very popular “Great Decisions” lecture series, sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association, is also returning this Spring with a new selection of topics. Lectures include Economic statecraft and Trade, by Dr. Debra Sabia of Georgia Southern University (Feb 5th); Defense and the Rise of New Technologies, by Maj. Gen. Rick Devereaux, Ret. USAF and Consultant (Feb 12); Food Security and Climate Change, by Dr. Amy Knisley of Warren Wilson College (Feb 19); China’s Foreign

Policy, by Dr. Jim Lenburg, Mars Hill University (emeritus) and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute board chair (Feb 26); Turkey (A Nation at a Crossroads), by Dr. Samer Traboulsi, UNC-Asheville (Mar 5); and Israel (Strained Alliance), by Dr. Heather Hawn, Mars Hill University (Mar 12). The cost of attendance is $35 per person for the series or $10 per person for a single lecture.

Other highlights from the Spring catalog include a cob-oven building workshop (using natural materials—a great oven for making pizzas); an Argentine Tango dance class; a Jazz History series taught by talented Asheville musician and Brevard College professor Jason DeCristofaro; and various health, wellness, and self-improvement classes to help kick off the New Year.
