Report shows Asheville has 13th most expensive homes

To find the areas with the most and least expensive homes and apartments, researchers at Porch used data from Realtor.com and ranked metropolitan areas by the typical price of a 2,000 square foot home. The researchers also analyzed data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis to determine the monthly price of a two-bedroom apartment and relative cost of living in each location.

The analysis found that in the Asheville metropolitan area, the typical price of a 2,000 square foot home is $472,771, compared to the national average of $342,719. Out of all midsize U.S. metros, Asheville has the 13th most expensive homes. Here is a summary of the data for the Asheville, NC metro area:

Price for a 2k square foot home: $472,771
Median list price: $475,000
Median price per square foot: $236.39
Monthly price for a 2-bedroom apartment: $1,303
Overall cost of living (compared to national average): -6.5%
