Rev. Ed Bacon, Oprah “Soul Teacher,” comes to Hendersonville May 31-June 2

Press release from the First Congregational Church of Hendersonville:

The Walter E. Ashley Lecture Series is excited to introduce Reverend Ed Bacon as our latest esteemed lecturer. An Episcopal priest and the author of “8 Habits of Love,” Oprah Winfrey recently named Ed Bacon a “Soul Teacher” on her “SuperSoul 100” list, a collection of “100 awakened leaders who are using their voices to elevate humanity.” Ed is a national voice on issues of the Oneness of all creation, rethinking Christianity as non-bigoted, science-friendly, and love-based; as well as promoting faith and justice for all regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Weekend Program (Lectures: $25 each or $75 all with lunch)

Friday, May 31, 2019 – 7 p.m. – Love Over Fear. Jesus consistently lived in what Henri Nouwen called “The House of Love.”  His life, ministry and relationships were an invitation for us to leave our “houses of fear” to join the path of living a love-based life.

Saturday, June 1 – 10:00 a.m. – Oneness Versus Separateness. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Thomas Merton had at the center of their writings and living the conviction that the universe is constructed as an interdependent whole.  “We are one though we imagine that we are not,” said Merton.

Saturday, June 1 – 1:00 p.m. – Christianity or Church-Ianity. If the path of Jesus is about Love and Oneness, not fear and separateness, then what does that mean about our daily living, our life of prayer, and our responsibility to seek first the “kingdom of God,” or my current translation of that concept “the Civilization of God.”

Sunday, June 2 – Forum, FCC Sanctuary, 9:00 a.m. – What Does It Mean To Be a Person of Prayer? What happens to our heart, our brain, and our relationships when we pray?

Sunday Worship, 10:30 a.m. – Rev. Bacon will preach.

Until his retirement in May 2016, Bacon was the rector of All Saints Church in Pasadena, California for 21 years. He is now interim pastor of St. Luke’s Atlanta, where he was youth minister 40 years ago.

Ed Bacon has been a regular guest host on Oprah Winfrey’s Soul Series, on Oprah & Friends Radio, and a guest panelist in the Spirituality 101 segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show’s “Live Your Best Life” series.
