Rotary Clubs of WNC seek volunteers for eighth annual meal packaging event April 29

From event promoters:

Help Rotarians Feed WNC and the World

Asheville, NC – Join in the movement to provide much needed meals in Western North Carolina and participate in the Eighth Annual Rotarians Against Hunger (RAH) meal packaging event on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Reuter Family YMCA in Biltmore Park. The goal is to package 300,000-plus fortified meals that will be distributed throughout Western North Carolina to families in need by MANNA FoodBank, and a portion of the funds raised will go toward distributing seeds internationally through Seed Programs International.

SPI is a non-governmental humanitarian organization which works through other humanitarian groups—worldwide—to provide vegetable seed to impoverished communities in developing countries enabling them to grow some of their own food. A percentage of the funds raised by RAH will support this cause. The organization not only provides the seed, but gives expertise and hands-on assistance on how to successfully plant and harvest. This is an effort to be a long-term cure for global hunger.

The meal packaging event at the Reuter Family YMCA is a fun, family-friendly and immensely rewarding experience where people – individuals, families, church groups, civic organizations and businesses – come together and package nutritious meals to help feed our neighbors. Please Join Us!

With the assistance of community partners MANNA FoodBank, Reuter Family YMCA and Seed Programs International, Rotary Clubs of Western North Carolina seek to address the increasingly critical need for food among people in WNC and overseas. The meal packaging event is an effort to help locally and RAH is raising $65,000 to make it happen. We also need over 700 volunteers to help with the actual packaging of the food. Primary sponsors of the event are Thermo Fisher Scientific, Express Employment Professionals and Signarama.
