SACEE calls emergency meeting on climate emergency resolution

Emergency meeting notice from the City of Asheville:

Pursuant to Article V, Section 7 of the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure for the Sustainability Advisory Committee on Energy and the Environment (“SACEE”), this is a notice for an emergency meeting of SACEE. This meeting is being called by SACEE Chair Keith McDade and SACEE Member John Noor for the purpose of considering and recommending a climate emergency resolution to City Council (the “Resolution”). The emergency meeting will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Asheville Police Department, 100 Court Plaza, 4th Floor Conference Room.

The need to consider the Resolution was unexpected due to SACEE being informed that Council would not consider passing a climate emergency resolution until Tuesday, Jan. 28. However, it now appears that Council needs SACEE’s recommended Resolution in advance of Council’s Tuesday, Dec. 10, meeting. One of the primary purposes for SACEE is to “provide guidance to the Mayor and Council on institutionalizing environmentally sustainable practices by evaluating and proposing policies that support City sustainability commitments.” Accordingly, Council’s request for guidance on the Resolution by Dec. 10 constitutes an unexpected circumstance that requires immediate consideration of the Resolution by SACEE and justifies calling an emergency meeting.
