Second Saturday in the River Arts District

Press release from the River Arts District Artists: 

On the Second Saturday of each month until the end of the year, the River Arts District will be holding gallery walks with live demonstrations, live music, wine tastings / spreads of food, and more! Meander the mile-long district while the artists keep their doors open late. There are more than 200 artists in the 23 buildings throughout the district. Most of them will be on hand to describe or show you their techniques as well as share with you what inspires them.

*A free trolley will be circling around the River Arts District from 10 am – 6 pm

“Reflections” Features work by 310 ARTists in all mediums. Art that shows our inner reflections and outer scenes, Demos of Painting with Beer, mixed media demo, cold wax and more!! Refreshments and free hands on mural canvas for all ages to paint, and our special workshop Intro to Eco Printing Sept 8th (pre register for classes at 310art.com)

North Carolina Glass Center

NCGC is a 501c3 not-for-profit gallery and studio dedicated to education, exploration and collaboration in all forms of glass. We have live glass blowing demos daily and exhibit over 20 independent glass artists and instructors.

“INSPIRATION” is a curated show based on Peggy Guggenheim’s personal collection of 20th century masterpieces that range in style from Cubism and Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism. Over 18 selected Western North Carolina artists will each create an original piece of art inspired by one of the great artists of the modern movement such as Picasso, Twombly, Miro, de Kooning and more!

Demonstration with Tanya Franklin Glass showing three methods of joining 3D Stained glass designs. Discussion will include metal work techniques for joining and strengthening joints as well as strategies to support, lift and secure the glass design.

Jonas Gerard will paint to the energetic accompaniment of a live audience at his Riverview Station Gallery at 191 Lyman Street on Saturday, September 8th, 2:00 pm during his monthly Painting Performance. Visitors are welcome to attend this free event as Jonas sets the mood for his spontaneous and expressive painting process with an eclectic mix of music that is sure to delight the senses!

  • Join us in Studio 256 to watch jewelry enameling right before your eyes! We use both a kiln and a torch to fire silver jewelry with glass enamel for a bright pop of color. Drinks and light snacks provided, and you can browse our gallery filled with jewelry made right here in the studio.

  • “Drawing for Joy” workshops will be offered at studio #211 Tuesday 9/11 9:30-noon and 9/13 4:00-6:30.

    14 Riverside has a display about glass. It is a city owned venue. The Glass Center is on Roberts Street, that’s where the glass blowing happens.
