When the leaves begin to turn in October in the High Country of North Carolina, those in the know head for Blowing Rock, where fall color is augmented by the attractions of North Carolina’s Prettiest Small Town. But truly insider travelers make their way to Blowing Rock before the crowds of leaf-peepers arrive, taking in the sights and sounds of September and enjoying the average high and low monthly temperatures of 69 and 51 degrees respectively.

Waiting to welcome the September cognoscenti, event and activity organizers in Blowing Rock have scheduled an array of attractions that will offer entertainment throughout the month for day-trippers, overnighters and weekenders alike.

On the first weekend in September (September 4–7), the Blowing Rock Farmers Market, live music at the Inn at Ragged Gardens and Green Park Inn, the monthly Art in the Park, Railroad Heritage Weekend at Tweetsie Railroad and Sunday Concert in the Park.

The following weekend, Farmers Market, live music, “Walking Mitford” tours and a Jan Karon book signing at Chetola, and the Beach Blast on the Blue Ridge, featuring the Band of Oz and The Catalinas.

On the weekend of September 17-21, Farmers Market, live music, the Mayview Madness 5k and One-mile Children’s Fun Run, and the Blowing Rock Music Festival outdoors at The Blowing Rock, featuring The Harris Brothers, Wayne Henderson & Friends, the Moore Brothers and more.

On the last weekend, Farmers Market, live music and the premier of the Ghost Train Halloween Festival at Tweetsie Railroad.
