‘Serafina’ Author Robert Beatty to visit Reading Raiders at Rugby Middle

Press release:

“Serafina” Author Robert Beatty to Visit Reading Raiders at Rugby Middle

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 20, 2016) – His books about a curious protagonist living in the depths of Asheville’s Biltmore Estate in 1899 have sparked interest in school book clubs, and prompted class visits to the Vanderbilt house. On Monday, Oct. 24, New York Times bestselling author Robert Beatty will present, answer questions, and sign books at Rugby Middle’s “Reading Raiders” book club.

The second book in his Serafina series, “Serafina and the Twisted Staff,” is the book currently selected for the students, parents and teachers participating in the Reading Raiders book club, which meets six evenings per school year. Since Beatty’s first Serafina book, “Serafina and the Black Cloak,” is on this year’s state reading list, the Rugby Raiders have invited the Battle of the Books teams from Henderson County Public Schools’ three other middle schools to Monday’s event – which is also open to the public.

Kicking off at 6 p.m., Beatty will meet with students, make a short presentation, and answer questions in the meadow behind Rugby Middle’s 6th grade wing. Students are encouraged to dress as one of the characters from the Serafina books, and families should bring chairs or blankets on which to sit, as well as snacks to supplement those provided. All students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian unless arrangements have been made with the student’s language arts teacher.

Beatty will be signing books after a presentation and Q&A session. He has requested that those who want books signed (two per person) include a sticky note or sheet of paper with what he is to write in the book. Please have the note written before coming to Reading Raiders. The evening’s events should conclude around 7:30 p.m.
