Sewage discharged into Richland Creek

Press release from the Haywood County Health & Human Services Agency: 

On Tuesday, Oct. 16 there was an accident on the eastbound 23/74 bypass involving a septic tank pump truck. Sewage discharged into Richland Creek. The Department of Environmental Quality has been notified. Clean up is in in process.

Out of an abundance of caution we recommend no swimming or any water activity at Lake Junaluska until further water testing is completed.
