Shakori Hills Community Arts Center holds 6th annual “Stars in the Round” fundraiser Aug. 29

The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center in Pittsboro, North Carolina will hold it’s sixth annual “Stars in the Round” fundraiser on August 29 at its 1439 Henderson Tanyard Road location in Chatham County, according to an official press release.

The event will feature several local singer-songwriters switching off at the mic between songs. This year’s performers include Dave Wilson from Raleigh-based Chatham County Line, Brooklyn transplant Kamara Thomas, Lakota John Locklear and local songstress Steph Stewart, among others.

The performance will open with a set from Big Ron Hunter, known around the region as “the world’s happiest bluesman.” Hunter will be representing The Music Maker Relief Foundation, which is co-sponsoring the fundraising event.

Dr. Bacon, a Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival favorite from past years, will close out the evening with a performance on the community center’s Grove Stage. An afterparty hosted by DJ Khaleeb will continue after the event for those who plan to spend the night camping on the Shakori Hills property.

In addition to the musical performers and events, “Stars in the Round” will feature local food trucks and craft beer selections from across Western North Carolina. The event is family-friendly and attendees are encouraged to camp overnight.

Organizers are calling the event a “perfect way to spend a summer evening with friends & festival family under a full moon!” All proceeds from will go towards supporting Shakori Hills mission of arts education and community building in Chatham County and the surrounding area. In addition to the Music Maker Relief Foundation, this year’s event sponsors include Carolina Brewery, Fair Game Beverage Company, Griffin Contracting, South Of Cool Sound Productions and Universal Printing.

Ticket prices are $12 in advance and $17 the day of the event, with children twelve and under granted free admittance. The cost for reserving a camping space is $10, and includes room for a vehicle and two tents.

Pittsboro, NC – On August 29th the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center is holding their 6th Annual NC Stars in the Round fundraiser event. The organization is calling it “The perfect way to spend a summer evening with friends & festival family under a full moon!” All funds from the event will go toward the arts center to carry out their mission of being “a center for arts education and community-building for Chatham County and beyond.”

The evening’s highlight is a singer-songwriter circle featuring local musicians and songwriters. Each artist will share his or her unique musical talents one song at a time, then pass the mic to the next. The stars include: Dave Wilson (of Chatham County Line), Kamara Thomas, Brett Harris, Mary Johnson Rockers, Steph Stewart, and Lakota John Locklear.

Opening the show will be blues crooner, Big Ron Hunter. Ron is called “the World’s Happiest Bluesman” who “owns a voice that gives people chills. It’s the kind of voice that carries warmth and tenderness, a voice that is unmistakably his own and embodies everything that’s raw, pure and beautiful about the blues.” Ron is a represtentative of one of the event’s sponsors, The Music Maker Relief Foundation of Hillsborough, NC.

Following the circle, one of the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival’s favorite new bands, Dr. Bacon, will close out the show on the Grove Stage.

After the official show, DJ Khaleeb, known from the festival’s Vinyl Lounge will be spinning vinyl for the late-night attendees who decide to camp but are not ready to crawl into their tents.

There will be local food trucks, local craft beer, and the Lil’ Coffee Barn will have coffee and snacks. This is a family-friendly event and all attendees are encouraged to camp overnight on Saturday. Chairs and blankets welcome.
