Sheriff Quentin Miller issues statement on HB 370 and ICE cooperation

Statement from Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller:

I want to be clear that I continue to stand against HB 370.

I stand with Sheriff McFadden and other Sheriffs in opposition to this unnecessary and unwise legislation. I would also like to thank Senator Van Duyn for her strong opposition to this bill.

It is vital that members of our immigrant community can call the Sheriff’s Office without fear when they are in need of assistance from law enforcement.

If ICE comes into our community and creates division and mistrust when we need cooperation and mutual understanding between our immigrant and minority communities and local law enforcement then we are all worse off for it.
