Short Street Cakes rolls out new pie menu, seasonal treats

Press release from Short Street Cakes

Short Street Cakes is launching a new line of house-made, hand-crafted pies. Available by advance order with select flavors offered daily, whole pies range between $22 and $26, while the mini pies serve two and cost $6 each. Flavors include Southern classics such as sweet potato, buttermilk chess, lemon meringue, pumpkin, apple, blueberry, chocolate chess, pecan, coconut cream, banana cream, strawberry icebox, chocolate French silk and key lime.

Short Street Cakes again celebrates the Mexican holiday of Los Dias de los Muertos (Days of the Dead) by creating authentic Mexican sugar skulls. Now through Saturday, Nov. 2, Short Street Cakes will make and sell blank and decorated sugar skulls, and will provide icings, decorations and tools for individuals and families to decorate skulls in remembrance of their loved ones.

Sugar skulls are priced at $5, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Coalicion de Organizaciones de Latino-Americanos (COLA), an organization advocating for immigrants’ rights in Western North Carolina. Short Street Cakes will again offer a discount to school groups such as Hall Fletcher Elementary who visit the Cake Shop to learn about the cultural tradition of honoring loved ones and ancestors through the ancient art of altar decoration and decorating skulls.

In addition, Short Street Cakes is offering cupcakes decorated in a variety of Halloween-themed styles, including vampire bites, bats, cats, ghosts, mummies, spiderwebs and Frankenstein’s monster. Only 48 hours are required for orders of any size, and a selection is available without an order daily. These all-natural cupcakes are a great alternative to supermarket cakes, which are saturated with chemical food additives and dyes. Short Street Cakes also offers gluten-free and vegan options.

Short Street Cakes, located at 225 Haywood Road in East-West Asheville, just up the hill from the River Arts District, is open seven days a week. The mission of Short Street Cakes is to add meaning to life’s celebrations by providing beautiful, delicious, all-natural, scratch-made cakes, and in so doing, generate a sustainable livelihood for our employees, educate the community about traditional food ways and support the local food and agriculture economy.
