STAND T.A.L.L. donates 2-way tactical radios to basic law enforcement students at Blue Ridge Community College

Press release from Stand T.A.L.L.:

Recruiting students for training to become future members of law enforcement has become more challenging these days. The costs of tuition, books, uniforms and training equipment is not always fully covered, and some critical needs may go unmet.

Recently, STAND T.A.L.L. was contacted by Philip Hosmer, Dean of Public Safety Training and the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Blue Ridge Community College. Dean Hosmer was aware that STAND T.A.L.L. had previously provided financial support for the BRCC police department and asked if they could again help by providing new 2-way radios to be used by students at BRCC who are training to become members of law enforcement locally and throughout North Carolina.

The 2-way radios the cadets have been using are no longer state of the art, and this year’s budget didn’t cover the costly replacements needed for current training needs. All police carry radios, and being able to use the most modern technology in training prepares the students for what they’ll experience in the field on active duty.

“The ability of the law enforcement officer to stay in constant communication with their agency is crucial to their individual safety and to their ability to serve the public,” says Dean Hosmer. “This donation of radio units to the Blue Ridge Community College Basic Law Enforcement Training Program by Stand T.A.L.L. will improve our cadet’s ability to communicate in stressful situations to assure that proper assistance is available to them as well as to the public.”

Ron Kauffman, president of the local nonprofit noted that, “Law enforcement is critical to the safety and security of all of us. Providing support to these cadets in training is just one way for us to help by providing the BLET program with current technology. While STAND T.A.L.L. is perhaps best known for our support of the area’s law enforcement K-9 departments, we do much more, and this is just another example of the fulfillment of our Mission.”

Kauffman went on to say, “In 2020 STAND T.A.L.L. was awarded 1st Place as Winner of Best Non-Profit in the Best of Blue Ridge Competition. Our goal, with the help and generosity of the residents of Western North Carolina, is to continue to make a positive difference in our community through various projects throughout our region.”
