Here’s the press release from the campaign of incumbent Republican Patrick McHenry, who defeated Democratic challenger Patsy Keever in the 10th District Congressional race:
Patrick McHenry overwhelmingly won his re-election bid for Congress on Tuesday. With the majority of precincts in the seven counties reporting completely, McHenry has 57 percent of the total vote against his Democratic opponent, State Representative Patsy Keever. The Congressman won six of the seven counties in the redrawn 10th District. It was McHenry’s first election in a redistricting year.
“I am humbled by your support and honored to be re-elected to another term as your Representative in Washington,” McHenry said in his victory speech.
McHenry stated the importance of this year’s election, “This is a critical election and again, I am so thankful to have you in this fight with me.” He continued, “Together, we can dig out from the avalanche of big government that has buried our country in debt and despair. We can rebuild the American Dream by returning to the principles that made our country so exceptional to begin with.”
In his closing remarks, Congressman McHenry recognized the district he has represented for the past eight years, “I want to take a quick moment to say how wonderful it has been to campaign in this new district and to make so many new friends in Buncombe and Polk Counties. And speaking of redistricting, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much the people of Avery, Mitchell, Burke, Caldwell and Iredell Counties have meant to me over the past 8 years. I will never forget how the people of these counties welcomed me into their communities and I thank you for your friendship and support. It was an honor to represent you.”
Congressman McHenry thanked his Democratic opponent for running a clean campaign and willing to serve the people. McHenry will be sworn into his fifth term in January.
