Students at Odyssey High School organize walkout protesting gun violence

Press release from student organizers:

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (April 20, 2018) -On Friday, April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, Odyssey High School is organizing a march from the Odyssey’s Montford campus to Pack Square Park, to act in unison with other schools around the country and in Asheville to protest gun violence and support gun reform. Our day will start at 8:30 a.m. at Odyssey, where we will meet to organize and make posters. We will leave campus at 10 a.m. to start walking the 40 minute route to Pack Square Park. Once we reach our destination, we will gather to listen to speakers, who will start at 11 a.m. The event will end at approximately 12 p.m.

Speakers will include the Odyssey student organizers and North Carolina General Assembly Representative John Ager. They will discuss why we are doing this, what legislation has been proposed concerning gun reform, and how to get government attention.

About the walkout

We are supporting these three bills:
H.R. 4268 “Gun reform: Not Sorry Act of 2017” – “
To amend title 18, United States Code, to provide for a 7-day waiting period before a semiautomatic firearm, a silencer, armor piercing ammunition, or a large capacity ammunition magazine may be transferred.”

– We support this bill because it make attaining a weapon type specified in this bill more difficult. It also means that if someone is trying to do something violent, there is a cool off period of seven days to rethink the decision. So impulsive purchases will be less dangerous.

S 2009 “Background Check Expansion Act” – “To require a background check for every firearm sale.”

– We support this bill because it means that before every purchase of any firearm there will be a background check. This means that if someone has a mental illness or history of violent behavior, this fact will be made known and they will not be able to purchase a firearm.

S 1916 “Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act” – “To prohibit the possession or transfer of certain firearm accessories and for other purposes.”

– We support this because if these accessories that can be used to turn normal firearms into automatic weapons are banned, then shooting like the Vegas shooting wouldn’t be possible.

The blood is already on the Democrats hands.
They are the ones that advocate disarming victims (no gun zones) and violating the law abiding (sanctuary cities).
Next thing you know they will advocate to protect more criminals (sanctuary cities).

    Time to stop the evil.
    Time to be pro choice.
Time to allow teachers the choice of bearing arms to protect their students, from the very predators the Democrats enable.

    Be pro choice.
