Terry Van Duyn: Happy Fourth of July

Here’s the message from District 3 Buncombe County commission candidate Terry Can Duyn, via her campaign’s email newsletter:

Friends,

This independence day is a little unique for me. Since deciding to run for office, words like government, freedom, and patriotism seem both more cynical and also more precious.

What a great opportunity, then, to take a day off from politics to remember our proud history, to reflect on all that we have in common, and to take pride in the values we all share.

Here in Buncombe County, we all want what is best for our children. We want our community to prosper, and we want to protect our beautiful mountains so they can be enjoyed not just by us, but by our grandchildren. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by those who went before us, for the families and friends who sustain us, and for the opportunity to live in a county, a state, and a country that we can be proud of.

I am grateful to you all for all the many ways you’ve encouraged me over the last several months. I promise to work hard to be deserving of your support. Please don’t hesitate to call or email with your ideas, your comments, your questions or your complaints. I depend on you to keep me grounded, honest, and informed.

I wish you and your family a happy Fourth of July!

Sincerely,
Terry Van Duyn
