The Gay Men’s Chorus of Asheville announces a new artistic director

Press release:

The Board of Directors of Cantaria-The Gay Men’s Chorus of Asheville is pleased to announce our new Artistic Director, conductor and singer Simone Bernhard.

“I am honored and thrilled to join Cantaria as Artistic Director for the inauguration of it’s 20th season,” said Simone.

Simone has appeared with trios and small groups as well as traditional big bands. She is especially excited about joining the two disciplines with the singers of Cantaria-The Gay Men’s Chorus of Asheville to create popular and classical presentations to delight both audiences and participants.

“After several months of interviewing some talented candidates we are excited to bring Simone into the fold,” said Butch Thompson, Board President. “Her many years of experience as a choral and orchestral conductor have honed her talents as an ensemble leader, vocal builder and diction specialist.”

Cantarìa is a voluntary, not-for-profit community chorus, organized to provide the opportunity for gay and gay-supportive men to sing together. Our primary goals are:
• to achieve excellence in musical performance
• to enrich the lives of participants through social and fellowship experiences
• to foster Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community spirit and to present a positive gay image to the Western North Carolina community at large
