Press release:

When The Magnetic Theatre debuted The Great American Strip-Off! for three weekends this past January, it proved an immediate sensation, not to mention its sold-out houses. Boo Velvet’s outrageous creation thrilled and delighted audiences, who begged for more. And now, Boo and The Magnetic are more than happy to oblige with a two-night return, May 12 and 13 only, at 10 PM.

And what is The Great American Strip-Off!? It’s burlesque! It’s improv! It’s fierce competition! It’s sexy ridiculousness like you’ve never seen it before—unless you saw it in January! But even if you’ve already seen the show, you know it will be totally different each night, since the striptease is improvised, and new contestant/performers have been added to the mix.

This burlesque improv spectacular is conceived, directed, and hosted by Boo Velvet (aka Kathleen Hahn, owner of Danceclub Asheville), a seasoned dancer and comedic burlesque performer in love with improv and exciting an audience. She will tease and tantalize as she shows off her beautiful cast of talent. And in these performances, Boo will be stripping, too. She just can’t stand to miss out on all the fun!

The Great American Strip-Off! performers will battle it out with striptease to win the hearts and votes of audience members, along with cold hard cash prize money. Each will select, from a hat, a mystery song and prop, on the spot, with no prior knowledge of what is in or will come out of that hat. The music could range from classic burlesque jazz to hip hop. The only thing the contestants have control over is their costumes!

After music and prop have been selected, it’s striptease improv go-time! The audience will decide who is the sexiest, most creative, entertaining, funniest stripteasers who get the opportunity to move on to the next round. Three rounds, three costume changes, many stripteases, one winner!

The cast includes a range of experienced burlesque performers, actors, and comedic improvisers. The show presents audiences an opportunity to witness the sexiest and funniest entertainers Asheville has to offer. Every show will provide a completely different experience. Boo Velvet will have a few surprises to keep everyone in the mood and will encourage audience participation that doesn’t make you want to roll your eyes but, instead, to jump out of your seat to be picked first! Don’t miss sexy/funny competition at its finest!

The Magnetic Theatre presents The Great American Strip-Off!, Conceived, Directed, and Hosted by Boo Velvet (aka Kathleen Hahn). At Magnetic 375 (375 Depot Street in the River Arts District). Friday & Saturday, May 12 & 13, 10 PM. Admission: $20. Adults only, please. Tickets and info: www.themagnetictheatre.org. Info only: 828.239.9250.
